Dental Implants in Burwood

If you’re looking to replace missing or damaged teeth, dental implants are an excellent choice. They’re the most natural looking option, and you can still eat the foods you love. You take care of these replacements as you would your natural teeth, and to the untrained eye, they appear to be the teeth you were born with. That’s why they’re the best option in dentistry outside of your natural teeth.

If missing or damaged teeth have left you feeling self-conscious, this method of dental restoration is the perfect option to give you back your confidence.

What Are Dental Implants?

Our implant dentist inserts a screw-like post, usually made of titanium, into the jawbone as a replacement for your natural tooth roots. Unlike dentures, which are false teeth easily removed, this is a fixed solution for missing teeth. Once attached, it provides a stable base for artificial replacement teeth, such as dental crowns, bridges and dentures. The result is natural, long-lasting, and feels just like a normal tooth.

What to Expect

Every procedure begins with an initial consultation; it’s even more important for implants. We need to see the position of your teeth, review the medical history, and factor in age to determine how we will proceed. The first appointment involves taking several X-rays to assess the positions of the teeth, bone, nerves and surrounding structures.

Then we refer you for a CBCT scan to check the bone levels and sinus placement. All this information is sent to another dental professional for evaluation. Once approved, they give us the final cost, which we present to you. Once you give us the okay to proceed, your first procedure will be scheduled.

In your first surgical appointment, the damaged tooth is removed, a titanium implant is screwed into the jaw, and the gum is secured over the site. It will take 3 to 6 months to fuse with the jawbone and for the gum to form around it to stabilise the area.

When healed, you’ll return to our dentist, and an extension called a post is attached. Once the gum tissue has healed around the post, the implant and post act as the foundation for the new tooth.

In the final step, a crown will be made to best suit your natural teeth, considering factors including size, shape, and colour. Once completed, the crown is attached to the implant post, so you can enjoy your beautiful new smile!

How Much Does It Cost?

The cost of dental implants varies, based on several factors, such as how many teeth need to be replaced, and if additional procedures, such as bone grafting or sinus lift, are required.

Typically, in Australia, the price for a straightforward replacement may range between $5,000-$6,000 per tooth. Depending on your insurance, and level of cover, you may be able to claim some of your treatment costs.
